A strange week indeed!
Why am I suddenly thinking about the Ides of March instead of hopefully anticipating Halloween?
The last week of September, 2020, began for me with a cordial difference of opinion among friends about how carefully we should observe Covid precautions.

Granted I am rigid. I believe you are already quite aware of this lack in my personality.
However, several of my very good friends are not quite so unyielding about our current restrictions.

After a pleasant exchange of opinions earlier this week, I sought precise clarification of current rules and/or restrictions for Independent Living Facilities.
Several days later, while still awaiting a response to my questioning, I kept an routine appointment in a nearby medical facility.
The immaculate waiting area was well supplied with sanitizer, masks and disposable gloves. The other six patients, also early for appointments, were seated precisely six feet apart.
As we sat quietly waiting anxiously to hear our names announced, the front door reopened . Another prospective patient entered wearing a cap embroidered with a significant political endorsement.
I cringed wondering if I would soon hear angry or outspoken and negative opinions from the others sitting in the waiting area.
To my utter surprise, there was only unanimous approval.
Also, a question from the one lone male,
“Where can I get a hat like yours?”
The supportive conversation changed when the subject of the Presidential debate scheduled for the same evening was introduced.
Again, to my utter surprise, the agreement among total strangers was unanimous:
“It doesn’t matter. Everyone has made up their minds already.”
It was an interesting and thought provoking episode. It also made me wonder about not only the validity and power of current news and polls, but more about the unity of America.
I felt a stab of fear (not unusual) as I pondered such complete confidence or possibly, smugness in America’s current volatile political environment
A simple phrase, consisting of four one syllable words sprang to mind.
For a brief second I thought I heard a whisper, “An Act of God.”
And today, with the blink of an eye, everything changed when Covid reached the White House.
A strange week, indeed!!!!!
