A Turtle

Sundae

My two very best friends (who have never met) are in total agreement about the last article I wrote, “I’m Finding It Difficult.”

While the immediate and simultaneous responses I received from both (Joan in Vermont, and Mary in Farmingdale) differ slightly in content, it is obvious both ladies are in total and absolute agreement.

However, let me distinguish my two beloved buddies.

Joan and I grew up together in Hell’s Kitchen, attended the same schools, and both found our happiness with husbands named Arthur. We rarely see each other, because of geography, but seldom miss a day minus an email.

Mary and I did not meet until the advent of our eighth decade. Instantly, we realized we had met a kindred soul. Our backgrounds are remarkably similar. We attended the same high school (at different times) but also grew up in NYC when life was unique and amazing.

I cannot recall ever having a dispute with either of my friends during the years we have shared.

Apparently, now both are in total agreement with their opinions:

“Anne, what is the matter with you?” Joan did express herself a bit more strongly than my quote, but I know she always is wise with her suggestions and/or advice.

“At our age, don’t you think?” Mary gently suggested in an email with precisely the same belief as Joan.

To clarify just a bit further. Joan is one year older than I; Mary three years younger. We are no longer considered, dare I say, spring chickens. Indeed not, we fall into the category of elderly, vulnerable and probably several other descriptive words that I chose not to mention.

My friends are right. We are coming to the end of our road. They both agree. Why worry about the nonsense that coats my world, i.e., caffeine, salt, medical news, and of course, myriad other mundane obscure topics.

Their messages while not identical share the same thought:

Isn’t it time to relax and enjoy life and it’s pleasures, chocolate, or expresso or perhaps even once in a great while, a buttered scone?

Well, since I do believe not listening to their kind advice would be rude, I think i might just do that.

Although I currently remain in “lockdown” due to Covid, there is still a well stocked restaurant in our residence.

I am now en route, for a Cordia special, A Turtle Sundae.

I only wish I could order three spoons and share it with two wonderful and wise friends.
