Mayor: Village Spa Busted for Prostitution is Closed for Good

At this month’s meeting of the Village Board, Massapequa Park Mayor James Altadonna announced that Fortune Foot Spa, recently busted for prostitution, was now out of business for good.

Earlier this month, five female employees were arrested at Fortune Foot Spa, located at 119 Front Street, with one being charged with prostitution and unauthorized practice and the other four being charged with unauthorized practice.

“They closed, but they were going to try and re-open,” Altadonna said. “We reached out to the landlord, and we tried to educate him on the problems, both with the building and with the story of the incident, and he agreed that, due to governmental violations, that he was going to rescind the lease, and they could no longer have the establishment.”

Also announced was a public hearing to be held on October 29, at which time Altadonna said he intends to award the Village Taxi Franchise contract to Long Island Checker Cab once again, the sole bidder this year.

“Usually, we get two or three bids each year,” he said. “This year we only got one.”

Altadonna listed some of the new perks the cab company would be offering to local residents, as a part of the new contract.

“They were awards the bid...they came in with a price of $2.99 for seniors, and $4.49 for everyone else within the Village,” he said. “They also run special promotions...certain days during the week, seniors can ride free, and they’re also sponsoring grandparents who want to take their grandchildren to McDonalds’s for a Happy Meal, and they will pay for the Happy Meal. So, they’re trying to be as giving to the community as possible.”

An agreement was also made public between the Village and Showtiques Crafts, Inc, to coordinate the upcoming 2013 Street Fair, which Altadonna said should be a great boon to the businesses in the Massapequa Park area.

“Last year it was such a nice weekend,” he said. “We did well as a Village, and part of the monies that we made we put into promoting out business district. We’ve been taking out ads in neighboring towns such as Babylon and Amityville, inviting people to come and fall in love with Massapequa Park.”

The meeting also featured an awards presentation highlighting local athletes and their accomplishments. Winners of a local Bocce tournament as well as Massapequa Coast Little League baseball players were recognized and presented with trophies and certificates of merit by Altadonna and his Board.
