Village Votes To Install Four-Way Stop Sign In Dangerous Intersection

The Massapequa Park Board of Trustees unanimously voted this week to install a four-way stop sign at a dangerous intersection within the Village limits.

The installation of the stop sign at the intersection of Jerusalem Avenue and Lakeshore Drive should go a long way to increasing public safety in the area, Mayor James Altadonna said at this week’s Village Board meeting.

“Going up Lakeshore, a few of the intersections only have stop signs that are North and South, and none that come from the West,” he said. “This intersection in particular has had a number of near-misses. If you live in the community, you know that people aren’t going to stop when they’re coming out onto Lakeshore...but if you don’t know that, it can get a little tricky.”

After the Board had approved of the stop sign at the intersection Monday, Altadonna announced that it would be installed “within a couple of days.”

Another matter covered at the meeting involved the Cabaret License of Woody’s Village Saloon on Park Boulevard.

The License, which allows the establishment to play music on the premises, is currently up for renewal, and Altadonna said that the Village was not planning to grant that renewal until certain conditions are met.

“The owner of Woody’s has some cars parked behind the building, and neighbors have complained that he often revs the engines, which makes a lot of noise,” he said. “We’ve asked him to move the cars a number of times...I think it’s going to be a while before Woody gets his Cabaret License renewed.”

Mayor Altadonna also commented on the progress of looking for a possible replacement for late Village Trustee Harry Jacobson, who passed away this past June.

“We’re still considering people for the position,” he said.
