The Wait

What are you waiting for? A free moment? Less choices? A clearer path? Peace on Earth? It never seems to be the right time.

You’re chugging along fantasizing that you’re skillfully juggling your enormous load, walking the straight and narrow, and boom: a millisecond of clarity showcases that you are the host of your own show. Say what? That’s right, you alone decide how, when, and where, to pull a plug or reconnect.

With too many cords in one outlet, it can be difficult to concentrate, figure out what is important, or resolutely deal with this hazardous eyesore. All that is required is a change of focus from the outward to the inward. Yes, it’s getting louder: strings of lights, decorated trees, and the to-do list with a waffling mind of its own. A surge of Divine Intervention could go a long way now.

The beginning of the liturgical year started on December first, professing: expectancy, preparation, and seeking. Throughout the centuries, Advent has been entrenched in the dualism of the anticipated second coming of Jesus and the commemorative coming of Christ’s birth in Bethlehem, to which we joyfully celebrate annually. Advent was originally intended to be a season of fasting and reflection, but has fallen wayside to external excitement and seasonal gluttony. God’s incarnation into Jesus marks calendars all over the globe, but locating God can be a little less pinpointed.

The worldly telltale signs of Advent wreaths with purple and pink candles boasting jubilant flames uphold tradition, act as a focal point to reposition our priorities, and illuminate the road to the Eternal Light. With fine gifts in hand, the three Magi, who were kings themselves, traveled a vast distance to celebrate and worship the newborn king, highlighting incredible faith, perseverance, and devotion. If only it could trickle down into civilizations far and wide filling drop by drop.
