Waitress Threatens Family With Knife At IHOP In Massapequa Park: Police

BREAKING: A dispute between employees and customers broke out last week, police say.

An IHOP waitress in Massapequa Park has been arrested for menacing a family with a steak knife last week, police say.

According to authorities, a husband and wife got into a dispute with one of the waitresses while they were customers at the restaurant, located at 4870 Sunrise Highway, on Friday, May 5 at 10:15 a.m.

Police say as the family was leaving, someone spilled orange juice on the table and an employee started yelling at them. The husband and wife were at the establishment with their two children with special needs, NBC reports.

Another waitress then grabbed a steak knife and threatened the family with it, police say. The waitress was arrested and charged with second-degree menacing. She was identified as Rhonda Kelly, of West Babylon.

Nassau Police told Patch they were unsure how the incident escalated.

"This was a situation that would be difficult for anyone to imagine and we wish the outcome had been different," IHOP owner Camile Gnolfo said in a statement to NBC.
