Week in Review: Feb. 19 to Feb. 25

The week began with shocking acts of vandalism throughout the Massapequa area.  St. Rose of Lima said goodbye to a beloved priest.  There was political news in Massapequa Park, a rescue in East Massapequa and a party at Big Daddy's

Here's a look back:

In the early hours the morning last Sunday more than a dozen vehicles in the area were vandalized in Massapequa and Massapequa Park. The vandals broke windows and mirrors.

The March elections in Massapequa Park will only feature two incumbents on the ballot. Village officials announced that Deputy Mayor Jeffrey Pravato and Trustee Teresa Spinosa were the candidates who filed and will run unopposed.

It was a small fire and a big relief as Massapequa firefighters rescued a dog after a kitchen fire broke out in an East Massapequa home. No people were injured, and the dog was quickly reunited with its owner.

church mourned the loss of their former pastor this week. Msgr. Dan Hurley died after several months of health problems. Hurley served as the church's pastor for 13 years and remained at St. Rose of Lima up until the end.

Finally, it was an annual party with a kick, as Big Daddy's Restaurant held their Mardi Gras celebration on Fat Tuesday.
