Why Oh

Why

At this pivotal turning point my in life, I become honestly aware of how much time I have wasted on senseless fears, i.e.:

1. Fear of the dark. ....

As yet the night has not claimed me in its grip nor stolen me from a bed.

2. Fear of never receiving a diploma. ...

I graduated from High School the year I was 16.

3. Fear of embarrassing my Mother. ...

Unfortunately, that happened often and unintentionally.

4. Fear of quicksand (induced by an addiction to MANDRAKE THE MAGICIAN comic strip.) ....

Living in NYC avoided that pitfall.

5. Fear of ever returning to the Financial District for employment (long before the horrors of 9/11). ....

A possible premonition?

It never happened. While I lived in NYC, I worked only in midtown Manhattan.

6. Fear of never knowing, or meeting a Prince Charming. .....

That evaporated one winter’s night on a Brooklyn Subway Platform.

7. Fear of death in childbirth. ......

I survived four without trauma.

8. Fear of being a “bad” Mother. ......

The jury’s still out.

9. Fear of driving. .....

Decades later I wept when relinquishing my Buick LaCrosse.

10. Fear of survival after my Love left for his eternal reward. ....

It wasn’t easy, but at the moment I’m still here.

11. Fear I’d never sell the house. ....

That was simpler than I dared dream

12. Fear of relocation to an unknown area of the U.S. ......

I learned quickly people are kind, wonderful and thoughtful everywhere our road leads.

13. Fear of Covid ......

.Ah, yes, but if I have coped with everything else I. should be able to do this, too.

14. Fear of the dark. .....

A challenge still.

But I will ever wonder why I wasted so much time.
