Wonka is Sweet at Bar Harbour Library
Peformance of children's classic wows both young and old.
The Bar Harbour Library was transported to the land of pure imagination this Sunday.
The children's library played host Sunday to an adaptation of "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" put on by Plaza Theater, an organization that specializes in performing for children.
"It's a wonderful experience to see local Long Island theater," said children's librarian Constance Smith.

More than 130 people were in the audience for the show, which featured songs from the 1971 film including "Candy Man" and "Pure Imagination," as well as new songs. Seven cast members played a variety of roles in the performance.
Themes of thinking positively and telling the truth were incorporated into the show, which was also set in contemporary times.

But there was enough of the original film, to make it a bonding experience for Trevor McAndrews, who brought his 4 year-old daughter Danielle to the play.
"I grew up with Willy Wonka and now she can enjoy it too," he said.
Cast member Lisa Berman says she's been involved with Plaza for over 10 years and it's the audience that keeps bringing her back.
"I do it for the children and the look on their faces," she said.
The play was sponsored by The Department of Community and Youth Service of the Town of Oyster Bay.
It was part of their Magic, Music and More children's program, which puts on shows at the library about twice a year.
The library has been involved with the Magic, Music and More, program for over 25 years, according to Smith.
"We have a long and happy relationship," she said.
