AG: Nurse Took Painkillers From Medford Nursing Home
The woman allegedly claimed to have prescribed the pills to a patient.

A Centereach woman who was employed as a nurse at Medford Multicare Center for Living is accused of falsifying medical records and taking painkillers from the nursing home for her own personal use.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced the arrest of 32-year-old Nicholle Gavegli on Wednesday.
Authorities say Gavegli claimed to have administered multiple prescribed Percocet tablets to a nursing home resident from Medford when she did not actually do so. Gavegli instead kept the pills for her own unauthorized use, Schneiderman said.

“All nursing home employees have a solemn responsibility to properly care for their patients, including ensuring that they receive prescribed medications,” Schneiderman said. “The falsification of medical records and theft of drugs – especially dangerous and addictive prescription narcotics – will not be tolerated by my office.”
Gaveglia has been a licensed practical nurse since 2005. According to the Attorney General’s felony complaint, from June 9 - July 27, 2014, while working as a medication nurse and caring for residents at the nursing home located at 3115 Horseblock Road, Gaveglia allegedly falsely recorded in a resident’s medical records that she administered the Percocet tablets.

Gaveglia allegedly later admitted to falsifying the records to cover up her theft and illegal possession of the drugs. She is charged with first degree falsifying business records, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and petty larceny.
Gaveglia was arraigned before before Judge Pierce Cohalon in First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday. The case was adjourned for a conference on July 15 in the same court.
