Dozens of L.I. Students Named Regeneron Scholars

The students come from schools all over the Island, and are now in the running to compete in D.C. for thousands in scholarships.

Dozens of students from Long Island were named Scholars (or semifinalists) in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2018. Students from both Nassau and Suffolk were honored, and are now in the running to be among the 40 finalists that will compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships.

There were 46 students from Long Island that were named Scholars (45 from schools on the Island and one, according to Newsday, that attends a school in New Jersey). There were 300 total, selected from the 1,818 students who entered the competition this year. Each of the Scholars will receive a $2,000 reward, and their schools will also receive $2,000.

“Regeneron is thrilled to partner with Society for Science & the Public to celebrate the 300 Science Talent Search scholars,” said Hala Mirza, vice president of corporate communications and citizenship at Regeneron. “We are inspired by their curiosity and passion for discovery, and congratulate them on their work and dedication. We hope the Regeneron Science Talent Search shows young people everywhere that they can change the world through STEM.”
