Off-Duty Police Officer Saves Drowning Nassau Child

BREAKING: Officer Doreen Moran rushed to her neighbor's house and performed CPR, saving the 2-year-old's life.

An off-duty police officer from Merrick helped save the life of her neighbor's 2-year-old son after the child fell into a pool Sunday.

Doreen Moran, a 10-year veteran of the Port Authority Police Department, was at home when she heard screaming from her neighbor's yard. She ran over and found the child unresponsive on the steps of the pool. Moran cleared the child's lungs and began CPR until the Merrick Fire Department arrived. The child was taken to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment and later to Cohen Children's Medical Center for overnight observation. The child survived and is currently in good condition.

It was the second time in a week that an off-duty police officer saved a drowning child in the area.
