Local Chiropractor to Volunteer in Haiti
Merrick resident Dr. Michael Schonfeld is collecting items and monetary donations to help earthquake victims.
Helping others in their times of need is not a novel concept for Dr. Michael Schonfeld, a Merrick resident and chiropractor at Bellmore's Allied Medical and Rehabilitation, P.C.
Back in 2001, he and his wife, Wendy, offered back adjustments t0 emergency personnel and first responders just days after 9/11.
"It made an obvious lasting impression of devastation walking on the smoldering ruins while helping so many and making a difference in a small way," Schonfeld said.

Schonfeld is heading to Haiti with a group of chiropractors later this week. Upon landing they have an eight-hour trip to Port-au-Prince. Although he's sketchy on most of the logistics, Schonfeld was told they would be providing whatever they can.
"Food, water, chiropractic care, anything," he said. "We are staying in a house that will provide us with a bed and that is about it. No running water of course."
Schonfeld is collecting items and money to take with him at While he is footing the bill for airfare, rental car, etc., still more is needed.
"Tents and clothing, we just need to get it packed and allowed on the plane," he said. "If not, I guess we can ship the excess. If people want to donate, I will spend their money wisely for whatever the people there need."
A chiropractor for nearly 32 years, Schonfeld is a past president of The Kiwanis Club of the Bellmores, and is a member of the Bellmore Chamber of Commerce.
Schonfeld and his family reside in Merrick. He has three daughters and five grandchildren. He has authored numerous articles that have been published in various chiropractic magazines and newsletters. His wife, Wendy, also a chiropractor is the co-owner of ABSolutley Fit, a personal fitness studio in Bellmore.
