Man Charged in Levittown Road Rage Screwdriver Robbery

Incident happened in March in Levittown, police said.

A man faces charges for threatening a motorist with a screwdriver and forcibly taking his car keys in Levittown on March 16, according to Nassau County Police.

The victim, 47, was driving on Newbridge Road near North Bellmore Road when Matthew Mulqueen, 33, displayed signs of road rage, police said.

The victim pulled over in an attempt to dodge Mulqueen, who stopped his car, approached the victim, and pressed a screwdriver against his neck, cops said. Mulqueen then pushed his forearm into the victim’s neck and took the keys from the ignition, police said.

The victim tried to take his keys back but Mulqueen threw him to the ground before tossing the keys in a nearby wooded area and driving away, police said.

The victim was brought to a hospital to be treated for his injuries and was released.

Mulqueen, whose address is unknown according to police, was located and arrested after surrendering to Nassau County Police Monday. He was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree menacing, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree reckless endangerment. He will be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
