
Colleges and universities announced the names of Merrick residents who are performing well on the college level.
Lafayette College
- Jeffrey Andersen of Merrick has been named to the 2012 fall semester Dean's List at Lafayette College. To qualify for Dean's List, a student must achieve at least a 3.60 semester grade point average out of a possible 4.0. Jeffrey is a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School.
- Thomas Lake of Merrick is a member of the Class of 2016 and is majoring in Business Administration. He was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester.
- Christie Picconi of Merrick is a member of the Class of 2015 and is majoring in Psychology. She was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester.
- Kayla Villante of Merrick is a member of the Class of 2013 and is majoring in Psychology - Special Education. She was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester.
- John Wigand of Merrick is a member of the Class of 2015 and is majoring in Criminal Justice. He was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester.
- The following students were named to the University at Albany's fall 2012 Dean's List for outstanding academic achievement: Nusheg Babikian of Merrick, Jonathan Crispino of Merrick, David Etringer of Merrick, Roberto Hernandez of Merrick, Amy Hershkowitz of Merrick, Ema Kraut of Merrick, Jessica Mishali of Merrick, Pedro Morico of Merrick, Lindsay Radow of Merrick, Timothy Walsh of Merrick andJason Wolbrom of Merrick.
- Rider University's colleges of Business Administration; Continuing Studies; Liberal Arts, Education, and Sciences; and Westminster College of the Arts have announced the names of undergraduate students who have been placed on the Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester, including Alexa Lauri of North Merrick, a junior Theater major, and Allen Winter of Merrick, a sophomore Theater major.
- Daniel Multer of Merrick achieved Dean's List at Columbia University in his first semester there while carrying a courseload of 20 credits.
- Andrew Earle of Merrick graduated December 2012 from the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi with an associate's degree in Construction Technology.
- Villanova University named the following students to the Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester, including Jaime Berghorn from Merrick, who's pursuing a bachelor's degree in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, James Costabile from Merrick, who's pursuing a bachelor's degree in the College of Engineering, Talia Charidah, from Merrick, who's studying Biology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Brittany Ciavarella, from Merrick, who's studying Communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Thomas Matuza, from Merrick, who's studying Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
- Loyola University Maryland has announced the members of its fall 2012 Dean's List. In order to qualify for the Dean's List at Loyola, a student must have a GPA of at least 3.5 with a minimum of 15 credits. The following local students have achieved this honor: Candice Ibarra, a member of the class of 2014 from Merrick, Keith McCloat, a member of the class of 2013 from Merrick, Kyle Pasieka, a member of the class of 2013 from Merrick and Jaquelyn Zoine, a member of the class of 2015 from Merrick.
- Several local students were among the newest members of the University of Delaware's Class of 2012, celebrated during Winter Commencement ceremonies held Sunday, Jan. 6, including Gifty Abraham of Merrick, Shawna Motley, of North Merrick and Meredith Warshaw, of Merrick.
- Connelly Dominick Miller of Merrick was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester at Washington University in St. Louis. Miller is enrolled in the university's College of Arts & Sciences.
- Briana Cangemi of Merrick, a Music Education major, has been named to the Dean's List for the Fall 2012 semester at Westminster Choir College of Rider University.
- Nicole Furman of Merrick, a senior at The University of Scranton, will serve as a student teacher at North Pocono High School in the North Pocono School District during the spring semester. Furman is majoring in secondary education physics at the Jesuit university.
- The following local residents made the Dean's List for Winter 2013 quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology: Joseph De Simpliciis of Merrick, a first-year student in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, Jennifer Kotler of Merrick, a fourth-year student in RIT's College of Imaging Arts and Sciences, Harry Yatkowitz of Merrick, a fourth-year student in RIT's College of Imaging Arts and Sciences and Zachary Feit of Merrick, a second-year student in RIT's E. Philip Saunders College of Business.
- Areti Koumourdas of Merrick has been named to the Dean's list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the Fall 2012 semester. The dean's list recognizes full-time students who maintain grade-point averages of a minimum of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 and have no grades below "C." Koumourdas studies Civil Engineering.
- Nicolette Teta of North Merrick, was one of 22 students from throughout New York state selected to present a paper at SUNY Oneonta's fifth annual Undergraduate Political Science Conference on Friday, March 15.
