The wallets of two Merrick residents are suddently a little heavier this week. The New York Lottery announced the names of area Lottery players  who claimed a winning ticket from one of the Lottery's live drawings between August 19 and August 25, 2012. Among them were two lucky Merrick residents: <ul> <li>Andrew Mantone, who won $10,000 on the May 26th drawing of Powerball. Mantone's winning ticket was purchased at Cards Unlimited at 39 Merrick Ave.</li> <li>Darryl Abramowitz, who won $10,000 on the August 15th drawing of Powerball. Abramowitz's winning ticket was purchased at RK Merrick Enterprises at 1701 Merrick Road.</li> </ul> The New York Lottery continues to be North America's largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing close to $2.9 billion in fiscal year 2011-2012 to help support education in New York State. The Lottery's aid represents nearly 15 percent of total state education funding to local school districts.
