“Three young men heroically intervened when they heard a woman in distress at a house party and forced the defendant out of the house,” said Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas. “Moments later, the defendant brandished a weapon, shot multiple times at multiple groups of people and left two young men with permanent injuries.”

Around 2:40 a.m. on July 23, 2017, an 18-year-old woman entered the bathroom at a home on Maple Avenue in Uniondale during a house party, and then Wright also went in. The woman called for help, and three men heard her. Kyle Richard, 20, Sulaiman Ania, 19, and Jewell Stewart, 19, opened the bathroom door and forced Wright out of the house.

A few minutes later, people saw Wright on the front porch of the house. He was confronted by other party goers, and then pulled out a handgun and fire multiple times. He shot Kyle Richard in both legs. A bullet also struck Michael Abiola in the arm after he had just pulled up in his car.

Wright fled the scene, and the police were called. Write was arrested the next day by Nassau County detectives, who found him in his father's home in Roosevelt, hiding under a pile of clothes in a closet.

Abiola and Richard are still suffering effects from their injuries. Richard was honored by former Vice President Joe Biden for his bravery.
