Bank Teller Rips Up, Throws Out Robber's Demand Note

MERRICK, NY — It's a time-honored tradition in bank heist history: The crook hands the teller a note demanding money, and the teller forks over the loot. But a teller in New York went off script Thursday when she ripped up the demand note, and thanks to her, the bad guy left empty-handed.

According to Nassau, Long Island, police, the man pictured above entered the TD Bank at 2260 Merrick Road, approached a teller and handed her a demand note that stated that he had a gun, on Thursday around 5:40 p.m.

After the teller tore up the note and threw it out, the man, who was described as 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-9, clean shaven, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and gloves, fled the bank without any proceeds and was last seen heading through the parking lot, police said.

There were five employees and two customers in the bank during the attempted robbery. No injuries were reported.
