2 TGI Fridays Restaurants In Hudson Valley Close, 3 Spared

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — TGI Fridays will be closing two more Hudson Valley restaurants, according to the company's website.

After shutting down the Woodbury TGI Fridays location as part of 36 closures nationally in January of this year, the company just closed its Poughkeepsie (2594 South Road Route 9) and Middletown (23 Crystal Run Xing) locations as well.

"We regret to inform you that Fridays has made the difficult decision to close our doors at Poughkeepsie, NY effective October 6, 2024," a sign on the Poughkeepsie location's door says. "We are extremely grateful to our loyal Guests and our Team Members at our Poughkeepsie restaurant. We can't wait to WELCOME YOU at our nearby location in Newburgh, New York."

The locations in Newburgh (1251 Rt 300), West Nyack (4482 Palisades Center Dr.) and Yonkers (833 Kimball Ave. Bldg 13A) remain open, according to the company's website.

Since the January restaurant closings, the casual dining restaurant chain lost control of most of its assets and had a potential acquisition by UK-based franchisee Hostmore PLC fall through, according to Restaurant Business.

TGI Fridays first opened in Manhattan in 1965 as a casual singles bar, expanding over the following decades into 600 locations worldwide.

According to Technomic data, the company has closed half of its U.S. restaurants over the past ten years, and sales dropped 15 percent in 2023.
