3 Accused Of Drug Possession After 1-Car Crash

Police said the drugs in question were clonazapam and cocaine.

CHATHAM, NY — On March 23, the New York State Police from the Kinderhook barracks responded to a property damage motor vehicle crash on State Route 295 in the town of Chatham, and arrested three subjects for drug possession. Joseph Patterson, 39, of New York, was arrested for fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies.

John U. Adams, 40, of Dalton, Massachusetts, was arrested for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Casey K. DuPont, 40, of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, was arrested seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Police said, around 12:30 a.m., troopers were dispatched to State Route 295 and Birge Hill Road in the town of Chatham by Columbia County 911 for a one-car motor vehicle crash.

An investigation found DuPont possessed about 1 gram of clonazapam, Adams had about 0.5 grams of cocaine, and Patterson had about 12.7 grams of cocaine.

DuPont and Adams were issued appearance tickets returnable to the town of Chatham Court April 3.

Patterson was arraigned in the Town of Chatham Court, and sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond. He is next scheduled to appear before the court March 26.
