3 Injured In 2-Car Collision In Ulster County

Police said one of the cars crossed over into the opposite lane and struck the other.

SAUGERTIES, NY — Three people were injured in Ulster County in a two-vehicle crash Saturday. The New York State Police said the collision happened about 10 p.m. on Route 212 in the town of Saugerties.

The initial investigation found that a 2005 Audi A4, driven by David Lowy, 64, of Chappaqua, was traveling west on Route 212 when he crossed over into the opposite lane and collided head on with a 2008 Pontiac G6 going east.

Ann Tucker, 75, of Saugerties, was the driver of the Pontiac, which came to rest in a ditch off the east shoulder.

Both vehicles had massive front-end damage, police said.

Tucker suffered leg injuries, and both she and Lowy were airlifted to Albany Medical Center.

Lowy's passenger was taken to an area hospital by Mobile Life.

Troopers said they determined, while speaking with Lowy, that he was impaired by drugs and was charged with driving while ability impaired — drugs.

He is scheduled to return to the Town of Saugerties Court Oct. 21.

Because this is an ongoing investigation, police said anyone who may have witnessed the crash or saw the vehicles prior to the crash is asked to call the state police at Kingston at 845-338-1702. Reference No. SJS 9842798.
