Death Toll From Storms Rises To 5: UPDATE
A tornado warning was in effect at the time an 11-year-old girl was killed.

RAMAPO, NY — A fifth storm-related death occurred in the region. The Ramapo Police Department said Wednesday an 80-year-old Chestnut Ridge woman was driving a 2018 Hyundai south on Red Schoolhouse Road around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, south of Garrett Court, when during a heavy part of the storm a tree fell on top of her car.
The woman, who was the only one in the vehicle, was taken to Nyack Hospital by the William P. Faist Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
She died from the injuries sustained in the accident.

Police said the accident in currently under investigation.
NEWBURGH, NY — Four deaths were reported in the region as a result of the severe weather Tuesday that also caused massive power outages and extensive damage. An 11-year-old girl died after a tree fell onto a car she was in on South Robison Avenue in the City of Newburgh around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday.

A tornado warning was in effect in the area at the time.
Just before 6 p.m., a tree fell on a vehicle a woman was driving in the Town of Newburgh. Police said she died as a result, CBS News reported.

Neither of the victims have been identified.

Two people died in Connecticut because of the severe storm. A man in Danbury was killed after a tree fell on his truck. So many trees had been downed that first responders had to use a boat to reach him.

A 41-year-old woman in New Fairfield was killed when a tree fell on her car. Her 3-year-old child was present at the time but was not injured.
The woman, Lauren Svendsen, was a middle school-high school art teacher for the North Salem School District in New York, according to tapinto.net

Gov. Andrew Cuomo toured storm damage Wednesday in Putnam County. He deployed 125 members of the New York National Guard to assist communities with recovery efforts.
