Already Sentenced To 25 Years In October, Man Pleads Guilty Again
The "persistent recidivist" was sentenced last month for robbery and weapon charges, and just pleaded guilty for another weapon charge.

NEWBURGH, NY — An Orange County man managed to get in hot water before he even started to serve a long prison sentence for a previous crime.
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that 22-year-old Ziquan Garfield Jenkins, of Newburgh, pled guilty last week to second degree criminal possession of a weapon. It is expected he will be sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by five years post-release supervision when he is back in court on January 6, 2025.
Jenkins was already sentenced on earlier cases last month to 25 years in prison followed by five years post-release supervision for first degree robbery and second degree criminal possession of a weapon.

On July 10, an arrest warrant was issued for Jenkins when he failed to appear for sentencing on the first degree robbery and second degree criminal possession of a weapon pleas. On July 26, he was arrested on those warrants and was again alleged to be in possession of a loaded firearm.
Jenkins was then sentenced last month to 10 years in prison and five years post-release supervision for first degree robbery and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and five years post-release supervision, for the second degree criminal possession of a weapon for the July 6, 2023 incident. The sentences were ordered to run consecutively for a total sentence of 25 years in prison and five years post-release supervision.
At the plea proceedings last Thursday, Jenkins admitted to possessing a loaded firearm on July 26.
"This persistent recidivist’s arrest, prosecution and incarceration will make the streets of Newburgh safer," Hoovler said. "Law enforcement is dedicated to rooting out violence in our communities. We see time and again that such violence often occurs with illegally possessed firearms. We will pursue these cases and these offenders to ensure just outcomes. Let the sentences imposed in these cases stand as a stark warning to those considering engaging in similar behavior."
The district attorney thanked the City of Newburgh Police Department for their investigation and the arrests of Jenkins.
