Beacon Woman Jumps from Bridge

FISHKILL, NY — State Police said a Beacon woman jumped off the Newburgh Beacon Bridge Sunday.

A passerby observed a woman out of a vehicle on the westbound side with her hands on the railing of the bridge around 7 p.m.

Police siad Melissa Zukowski, 48, had jumped into the Hudson River before authorities got to the scene.

Search teams from the Beacon and Newburgh fire departments were dispatched and Zukowski’s body was recovered two hours later in the area of the Dutchess County shoreline.
