Body Recovered From Hudson River Tuesday

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A body was reported floating in the Hudson River around noon Tuesday, July 31 in the vicinity of the Mid-Hudson Bridge. Two Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office boats were dispatched, and deputies located the body.

The male body was removed from the river by members of the sheriff’s office, City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The matter was turned over to the Poughkeepsie city police and the medical examiner’s office for further investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Poughkeepsie Journal said, and the man’s identity will be released sometime in the afternoon.

Paul Machettia was in the water with a group of people July 24 when he went missing. Police searched for him for a few days but was never located.
