'Combative' Driver In Flipped Truck Tried To Ignite Gas Leak: Police

Ulster police say the investigation into the accident is still underway and no charges have been filed yet.

ULSTER, NY — After a truck flipped onto its side and began to leak gas, the driver made some questionable decisions, according to police.

The Ulster Police Department says that on Thursday, around 4:54 p.m., officers responded to a report of a personal injury vehicle accident on State Route 209, at the Enterprise Drive overpass.

At the scene, officers found a 2004 Ford F-250 utility truck in the southbound lane of Route 209, on its side, with the driver, 32-year-old Jalen Heroy, of Clintondale, trapped inside.

The truck was leaking a large amount of gasoline.

Police say that once they made contact with the driver, who was "acting extremely erratic and at times attempting to ignite the gasoline," they extricated him with the help of the Ulster Hose Fire Department.

Heroy reportedly became "physically combative" with police officers.

He was taken into custody and then to the Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston for further evaluation.

Police were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, Ulster Hose Company #5, Empress EMS, the Town of Ulster Highway Department, and NYSDOT.
