Driver Seriously Hurt After Crashing Into Dunkin' Donuts

The crash happened after midnight when a 2015 Chevy Silverado crossed both directions of traffic & plowed into the building, police say.

ORANGE COUNTY, NY — A Hudson Valley man is in the hospital after the car he was driving plowed into a doughnut shop.

On Thursday, at around 12:40 a.m., the Town of Crawford Police Department responded to an iPhone crash notification at State Route 52 and Boniface Drive. Officers discovered a pickup truck had smashed into the Dunkin' Donuts at 2380 State Route 52.

44-year-old Eric Schrader, of Pine Bush, was driving a 2015 Chevy Silverado in an eastbound lane on State Route 52 when he crossed the westbound lane, exited the roadway, and hit the Dunkin' Donuts building.

The truck smashed into the building which was not occupied.

The building was severely damaged, preventing the entry of the officers until the arrival of rescue units. The Pine Bush Fire Department, Orange County Fire Control and building collapse units from the surrounding area secured the building, and Schrader was extracted at 2:30 a.m.

He sustained a severe head injury along with other injuries. Schrader was taken to Garnet Medical Center, were he is listed in serious condition.
