East Durham Fire: Troopers ID Victims; Over $14K Raised
State police identified the three children and two grandparents killed in a Monday morning fire.

EAST DURHAM, NY — State police have officially identified three children and two grandparents killed in a morning fire on Monday. Nicholas Mammano, 68, and his wife Mary Mammano, 68, died inside the house along with their grandchildren Sophia Mammano, 7, Jayden Caffrey, 8, and 10-year-old Jonathen Mammano, state police said in a release.
The home is located off state Route 145.
As Patch previously reported, the children's father, John Mammano, 34, was the lone survivor. He suffered burns to his face, hands and arm and remains hospitalized in critical condition, state troopers said in a release.

State police and fire investigators are continuing their investigation into what caused the building to burst into flames. The blaze ignited just after 6:30 a.m. Monday.
Investigators had been at the scene of the two-story, single family home for 17 hours.
