Fatal Tractor-Dump Truck Crash In Hudson Valley

GREENPORT, NY — A crash involving a farm tractor and a commercial dump truck took the life of a Columbia County man Thursday. State police said the accident occurred around 2:15 pm. on State Route 9 in the Town of Greenport.

Troopers were called to the intersection of Route 9 and Yates Road for a two-vehicle crash.

The investigation found an International Harvester Farmall 1066 tractor was trying to cross Route 9 going west from Yates Road.

Stuart M. Meisner, 67, of Hudson, was driving the tractor and, police said he failed to yield the right of way and was struck by the dump truck.

Meisner was pronounced dead at the scene by the Columbia County Coroner's Office.

The dump truck operator, Norman R. Stoddard, 72, of Hudson, was taken to Columbia County Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Greenport Rescue and the state Department of Environmental Conservation also responded to the scene, state police said.
