PAWLING, NY — A Harlem Line train struck a tractor trailer Monday in Pawling. The Metro-North Railroad said the collision occurred at the Corbin Road crossing before 1 p.m.

The tractor-trailer had a mechanical issue causing it to become stuck at the crossing, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.

All occupants of the vehicle were able to get out before it was hit, and three of the 25 people on the train were sent to a local hospital.

Substitute bus service was provided starting with the 2:18 p.m. train from Wassaic to Southeast and the 3:33 p.m. train from Southeast to Wassaic because of the collision, the MTA said. Customers should listen for announcements at their stations.

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, D-Cold Spring, said it was lucky more people weren't hurt.

In a prepared statement, he said, “We know that accidents at grade crossings like this are preventable, but they still happen all the time. We’ve made some progress, but we’ve got to keep going. That’s why I’ve been working to pass additional legislation to keep these kinds of accidents from happening through the use of emerging technologies. We must take more steps to make our trains safer and protect commuters and drivers.”
