Hudson Valley-Based Tour Bus Rolls Over On I-90

More than 50 people were injured in the crash of the bus that was headed for Niagara Falls.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A tour bus that crashed on Interstate 90 in Cayuga County was based out of the mid-Hudson Valley.

New York State Police said the crash, which happened around 12:40 p.m. Saturday in the town of Brutus, injured more than 50 people when it went off the roadway for an unknown reason and rolled over on the interstate's grassy shoulder.

The rollover occurred in the westbound lane of I-90 just west of exit 40 (Weedsport).

Police said the bus, which had 57 people on board, was from JTR Transportation based in Poughkeepsie.

The driver of the bus was Fermin P. Vasquez, 66, of Wingdale.

He was one of about 26 people taken to Upstate Hospital for treatment of various injuries.

Another approximately 26 other passengers were taken to Auburn Community Hospital. Several others were taken to Crouse Hospital, police said.

Injuries ranged from minor to serious.

The bus had left Poughkeepsie earlier Saturday and was headed to Niagara Falls, authorities said.

The investigation is still ongoing and the state police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the crash, to call Investigator Brad Holcomb, SP Waterloo, at 315-539-3530 with any information.
