Kittens Rescued from Container of Construction Debris

Employees at the transfer station found them miraculously alive.

HOPEWELL JUNCTION, NY-Employees at Royal Carting Service Company got a surprise Tuesday morning when they up-ended a construction container to begin sorting the contents: some of the contents were mewing.

There were six kittens inside.

The furry find was made first thing in the morning. Company co-owner Evelyn Constantino said it happened before 8 a.m. "We have a staff meeting on Tuesday mornings from 7 to 8 and I was hearing all this commotion," she said.

The kitties look to be about a month old and in good health, she said.

All the kittens are spoken for at the moment -- one adopted by the office manager, another by one of the mechanics, and three taken for fostering by a friend of an employee.

The sixth, who had an injured paw, is being treated by a local vet.

"It's a miracle that these kittens survived," Constantino said. "Needless to say not a lot got done around here today."
