Men Who Robbed Hasidic Developer Sentenced In Orange County

The developer was at the town hall to file a petition for a new village.

GOSHEN, NY — Two Orthodox Jewish men were sentenced to five years probation Wednesday for the robbery of a Hasidic developer. The incident took place March 28 outside Monroe Town Hall.

Monroe residents Moses Hirsch, 31, and Shlome Katz, 32, had pleaded guilty to felony third-degree robbery, Times Herald-Record reported.

The men attacked and took a petition and a phone from developer Herman Wagschal.

Wagschal was at the town hall to file the petition, which was an effort to create a village next to Kiryas Joel.

Hirsch and Katz are part of a Hasidic group that believes there should be no participation in politics until the Messiah returns.
