Police Identify Mother, Child Killed In Fishkill: UPDATE

FISHKILL, NY — A mother and her child were killed and her three other children were injured walking on Route 52 Sunday night in Fishkill. State Police said they were struck by a vehicle near Old Glenham Road in the Town of Fishkill around 8:40 p.m.

The mother, Zuleyma Lopez , 28, and her 10-month-old child, Abel E. Torres-Lopez, were declared deceased at the scene.

Police said that the driver, a 53-year-old Fishkill resident, was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon, was traveling west on Route 52 in the center-turn lane of the three-lane road. He did not see the family trying to cross the road from the north shoulder and struck them, police said.

The three injured children were taken to Westchester Medical Center.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
