NJ Man Caught Driving 145 MPH: NYSP

Police said he was already going over the speed limit when he stopped a trooper's car.

WALLKILL, NY — A New Jersey man was accused of driving well over 100 mph in Orange County Friday. State police said, around 10:15 a.m. Friday, troopers saw a 2009 Dodge Challenger traveling west on Route 17 near exit 122 faster than the posted speed limit of 65 mph.

As the car passed a trooper's vehicle sitting in a U-turn, police said the car sped up and began passing vehicles in a reckless manner.

The speed was verified on radar as 145 mph, police said. The car exited the highway and was finally stopped on NY-17K west.

The driver of the Challenger was identified as Jeremy J. Vanleuvan, 23 of Wanaque, New Jersey.

He was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and reckless driving, both misdemeanors.

Vanleuvan was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Wallkill Court March 13.
