Pedestrian Struck, Killed On I-87 In Newburgh

Police said the man was in the road for no known reason.

NEWBURGH, NY — One person died as the result of being struck by two cars on I-87 in the Town of Newburgh Sunday. State police said the incident happened around 1:20 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate.

Troopers responded in the area of mile marker 59.9 after being told a pedestrian was struck by northbound traffic.

The investigation found David R. Kurtz, 48, of Walden, was driving a 2020 Chevy Blazer north on I-87 when he struck Anthony Shipman III, 30, of New Windsor.

Police said Shipman was in the roadway for an unknown reason at the time.

He was then struck by a 2007 Audi A6, driven by Daniel Delgado, 42, of New Windsor.

Neither driver was injured, police said, but Shipman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident was reconstructed by the New York State Police Troop F Collision Reconstruction Unit. It remains under investigation, police said.
