Pilot Killed In Saturday Plane Crash Was Rabbi, College President

One other person was injured in the crash of the small plane.

WAWAYANDA, NY — A plane crash Saturday morning in Orange County killed one person and injured another. State Police said the plane went down in a field off Dolsontown Road in Wawayanda around 9 a.m.

The two people inside the plane were taken to Orange Regional Medical Center, recordonline.com said.

Hebrew Union College identified the pilot who was killed as Rabbi Aaron D. Panken, PhD, 53.

He was the president of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, having served as the 12th president in the institution’s 143-year history.

Panken is survived by his wife Lisa Messinger, his children Eli and Samantha, his parents Beverly and Peter and his sister Rabbi Melinda Panken of Congregation Shaari Emeth in Manalapan, NJ.
