Poughkeepsie, Arlington, Beacon, Wappingers Budgets OK'd
Voters went to the polls Tuesday to decide on school budgets and board members.
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Voters in the Poughkeepsie school district approved the $105.1 million budget for the 2019-20 school year. According to unofficial results, the budget was approved 578 to 262.
The budget was 5.3 percent more than the current spending plan and the tax levy increase was 2.71 percent, which was within the state mandated tax cap.

Three candidates were vying for one seat on the board of education. The winner was Andrew Rieser. Also on the ballot were Addie Davis and Joyneia C. Joyner.
LAGRANGEVILLE, NY — Voters in the Arlington school district approved the $216.2 million budget for the 2019-20 school year. According to unofficial results, the budget was approved 1,783 to 691.

The budget was 2.99 percent more than the current spending plan and the tax levy increase was 2.15 percent, which was within the state mandated tax cap.
Voters were also asked to approve a school bus and equipment proposition in the amount of $1,975.500 bonded over five years. It was approved.
Five candidates were vying for three seats. The winners were Marion Quinn, Kelly Cahill Chenski and Mark Tornatore. Also on the ballot were Aelan Mosden and Kerri Fasulo.
BEACON, NY — Voters in the Beacon school district approved the $73.5 million budget for the 2019-20 school year. According to unofficial results, the budget was approved 749 to 193.
The budget was 3.1 percent more than the current spending plan and the tax levy increase was 4.4 percent, which was within the state mandated tax cap.
Voters were also asked to authorize the school district to increase the estimated maximum cost of the 2017 Capital Project from $8,995,000 to $9,695,000; and to transfer the total additional sum of $700,000 (which monies have been previously levied and collected as taxes) from unassigned general fund balance (in the amount of $200,000) and unassigned capital funds previously approved by the voters in the 2016-2017 school year (in the amount of $250,000) and the 2017-2018 school year (in the amount of $250,000). It was approved.
The bus proposition in the amount of $450,000 was also approved.
Three candidates were vying for three seats. They were Michael Rutkoske, Antony Tseng and Meredith Heuer.
HOPEWELL JUNCTION, NY — Voters in the Wappingers school district approved the $235 million budget for the 2019-20 school year. According to unofficial results, the budget was approved 1,710 to 624.
The budget was 1.57 percent more than the current spending plan and the tax levy increase was 2.14 percent, which was within the state mandated tax cap.
Voters were also asked to approve a bus proposition in the amount of $2,297,040. A total of 25 vehicles are being requested, ranging from 71-passenger buses to 29-passenger vans. It was approved.
Three candidates were vying for three seats. They were Eddy A. Sloshower, Marie Johnson and Michael Lopez.
