Poughkeepsie, Beacon, Wappingers Districts To Vote On Budgets

The budget votes will be held Tuesday, May 15.

Voters around the mid-Hudson Valley will be going to polls Tuesday, May 15 to decide whether their school districts’ budgets will pass. For the Poughkeepsie City School District, voters will be asked to approve a $99.8 million spending package, up 3.16 percent over the current year.

The tax levy increase is 4.39 percent.

Polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Beacon City School District will be deciding on a $70.5 million budget, which is 2.76 percent more than the 2017-18 budget.

An increase of 3.87 percent is expected for the tax levy.

Also on the ballot will be a transportation proposition asking voters whether to approve the issuing of $380,730 in bonds, with a five-year maximum maturity, for the purchase of school buses.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.


The Wappingers Central School District has three propositions on the ballot.

The proposed 2018-19 budget is $231.3 million, up 2.72 percent from the current year.

The tax levy increase is 2.92 percent.

Proposition No. 2 asks voters to approve the borrowing of $33.8 million for the 2018 capital project. School officials said once state aid is factored in the district’s share will be $16.7 million.

Bus purchases are the reason for the third proposition. The district is asking to purchase 14 71-passenger buses and nine 19-passenger vans at a total cost of $1.97 million.

Polls will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
