Poughkeepsie's Work Week Weather: Dog Days of Summer

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — We're kicking off a late July work week with weather that's, well, summery. "A SW wind will pull a fair bit of humidity into our region," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "That should make for a bit of a sticky day… but not a completely uncomfortable day."

However, he pointed out, "Due to the heating of the day, and the mid-level trough that is in our area… atmospheric instability could be high enough for one or two of these storms to become severe."

Here's the forecast from the National Weather Service for the mid-Hudson Valley:

• This Afternoon: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
• Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
