Reward Increased For Info About German Shepherd's Death
Police said Duke's body was found Feb. 2 on the side of a road in Columbia County.

GALLATIN, NY — The reward being offered for information about the death of a German shepherd dog in the Town of Gallatin has increased. According to the state police, the New York State Humane Association, which is headquartered in Kingston, is now offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for fatally shooting and disposing of the dog.
A $1,000 award for information was previously offered.
The body of the approximately 2-year-old animal named Duke was found Feb. 2 near the shoulder of Silvernails Road by a resident.

It was reported to the dog warden officer, who called the state police after seeing a bullet wound on Duke's body.
The animal's owners live about 6 miles south of where the body was discovered. The dog was known to run from the residence, police said.
