Shots Fired In Red Hook; Suspect In Custody

The county executive said he was grateful a dangerous situation was quickly resolved.

RED HOOK, NY — A subject is now in custody after a report of shots fired in Red Hook. New York State Police tweeted around 1:45 p.m. Friday that shots were heard on Whalesback Road in the town.

No further details were released about the incident.

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro released a statement about the shooting.

He said he was grateful to the officers of the Red Hook Police Department, Dutchess County sheriff's deputies and the state police for their rapid response.

"Because of their swift action and bravery, a dangerous situation was quickly ended, and the individual stopped," Molinaro said.

"Violent situations like this are, unfortunately, becoming all too familiar, but that doesn't make it any less unsettling when they happen close to home," he said.

The Red Hook Central School District had been placed on lockdown, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.
