State Police Appoints New Troop F Commander

The previous commander was appointed to the position of Staff Inspector.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — Effective July 13, 2017, New York State Police Superintendent George P. Beach II has appointed Major Pierce V. Gallagher as the Commander of Troop F, taking over from Major Joseph Tripodo. On March 28, 1988, Gallagher entered the New York State Police Academy. Upon graduating from the academy basic school, he was assigned to Troop F where he served as a road trooper until his promotion to investigator in January 1994.

In November 1997, Gallagher was promoted to the permanent rank of Sergeant and continued to serve as an investigator in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Troop F.

On June 6, 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to New York City as the BCI Lieutenant. In 2003, he was assigned to the Internal Affairs Bureau, serving for a year, before returning to Troop F as Lieutenant in Zones 1 and 2.

On February 16, 2012, Gallagher was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned to Troop L in Nassau County.

In 2013, he was assigned to the Troop K BCI, and in the fall of 2014, he returned to Troop F and took command of Troop F BCI.

Effective July 13, 2017, Tripodo was appointed to the position of Staff Inspector. He will be assigned to Division Headquarters, Field Command, BCI. Captain Brian Shortall, currently the Zone 1 Commander, has been assigned as the BCI Captain of Troop F.

Troop F covers Greene, Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties.
