State Police, Newburgh Police Vehicles Get Into Accident

A trooper and a police officer were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

NEWBURGH, NY — State police are investigating an accident that involved a state police vehicle and a Town of Newburgh Police Department vehicle. The crash happened around 9:34 p.m April 29 on State Route 300 in the Town of Newburgh.

Police said both vehicles were traveling south, with the state police vehicle being driving in the driving lane and the Newburgh police in the passing lane.

An third car traveling north on Route 300, in violation of the vehicle and traffic law, was spotted by the trooper, who then attempted to make a U-turn, striking the Newburgh police vehicle on the passenger side.

Both drivers were taken to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital for evaluation.

The Town of Newburgh officer suffered an ankle injury and was treated and released.

The trooper was treated for a shoulder injury and was released.

Police said the accident is still under investigation.
