Storm Damage Widespread In Hudson Valley Tuesday: Reports

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A severe storm barreled through the Hudson Valley Tuesday afternoon, with reports of hail, extremely high winds and even tornadoes. The National Weather Service issued a Preliminary Local Storm Report at 8:12 p.m. Tuesday. Tree limbs down, trees snapped or uprooted, wind gusts of 60+ mph, and lots of damage.

Newburgh had extraordinary damage, with locals reporting extreme damage. The reports started coming in at 5:12 p.m.

• 0512 PM NEWBURGH TREES DOWN WITH CARS AND BUILDINGS DAMAGED ON FIRST STREET BETWEEN LUTHERAN STREET AND CITY TERRACE.
• 0524 PM NEWBURGH ROOF OFF OF THE HOTEL IMPERIAL AT BROADWAY AND ROBINSON AVENUE
• 0524 PM NEWBURGH ROOF COVER BLOWN OFF AN ABANDONED BUILDING ON CARPENTER AVENUE NEAR BROADWAY WITH BRICKS ON THE GROUND.

Among the other highlights:

NUMEROUS TREES DOWN IN NEW WINDSOR, SPECIFICALLY NEAR JACKSON AVE. AND NY94

5 INCH TREE ON CAR IN BEAR MOUNTAIN STATE PARK ON 9W NEAR IONA CIRCLE.

TREE FELL ON CAR ON 9W JUST NORTH OF IONA ISLAND IN BEAR MOUNTAIN STATE PARK. NO INJURIES.

Crazy amounts of hail were reported in Saugerties.

0505 PM IRVINGTON BROADWAY ROAD NEAR ROUTE 9, LARGE TREE LIMBS AND BRANCHES DOWN.

0510 PM CONGERS TREE DOWN BLOCKING BOTH LANES OF ROUTE 303 JUST SOUTH OF RANDI LANE.

0511 PM LARCHMONT HARBOR WIND GUST 60 MPH

0512 PM WIND DAMAGE 1 SW BALMVILLE TOPS OF TREES TWISTED AND BROKEN OFF ALONG I-84 WESTBOUND BETWEEN EXITS 8 AND 10. TREE DEBRIS IN ROAD BLOCKING ONE AND A HALF LANES.

Was it a tornado or not? So far only one confirmed tornado was reported in Sullivan County.

There was a lot of damage reported in Newburgh.

Not to mention the evening commute — for those who were driving — was no bed of roses.
