Switch! Weekend Weather for Poughkeepsie, Newburgh

Blustery conditions will bring "a taste of winter" to the Mid-Hudson Valley.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Right on the heels of summer-like temperatures, we're going to be plunged into a December-like chill in the Hudson Valley.

So put away the summer clothes...again. Wear layers, including hats and gloves, if you're going to be outside at a game or on a hike, says Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist, who says this weekend will give us "a taste of winter."

"The weekend looks very blustery," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "We’ll see strong winds usher in much colder air on Saturday, with temperatures falling into the 40s during the day. In addition, scattered showers will be possible through the day, as the low pressure system intensifies and pulls into New England. The winds will continue into Sunday, with gusts over 35mph possible."

One note of caution: The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Dutchess and Ulster counties. Some of the rainfall Friday and Saturday could be heavy, causing some urban ponding and leaf-clogged storm drain could be a problem. After the storm departs Saturday, wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph could be possible, especially in the higher elevations.

While there is a higher chance of rain, the clouds don't appear to be bringing us relief from the region's drought.
