Texas, Louisiana Dogs Evacuated To Hudson Valley Shelter
The animals were removed from shelters most at risk of flooding from Hurricane Harvey.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — Dogs evacuated from parts of Texas and Louisiana because of Hurricane Harvey are being brought to Pets Alive in Middletown, and the organization is asking for the public’s help. Brother Wolf Animal Rescue of Ashville, NC has been working with four coastal animal shelters affected by the hurricane.
Their goal, according to information on the Pets Alive website, is to transport animals in shelter most at risk of flooding and bring them to the safety of northern animal shelters.
Pets Alive expects the arrival of dozens of dogs Tuesday, Aug. 29, and is working with several area rescue groups in Orange County.

Pets Alive is the staging area for the incoming dogs and will take in about 20 of the animals.
The remaining dogs will got to Hudson Valley SPCA, Humane Society of Walden and Suruluna Animal Rescue.

The medical conditions of all the dogs is as yet unknown, but at least three of the dogs are heartworm-positive. Treatment can cost up to $1,000 per dog.
Pets Alive is asking for donations of supplies and money to help cover the expense.
Needed supplies include canned dog food (Pedigree is preferred), bleach, contractor garbage bags, 3-pound paper rays, blankets and linens.
Supplies can be dropped off at Pets Alive, 363 Derby Rd. in Middletown daily between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. or Kristt Company, 369 Broadway in Monticello between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Pets Alive said the dogs evacuated from Texas and Louisiana will not be available for adoption for at least two weeks because they will be medically assessed and treated.
However, the organization said that its current dogs are available for adoption and for every dog that is adopted, a space at the shelter is opened up for another animal.
