Ulster Man Violates Protection Order, Threatens Victim: NYSP

The man was injured in the incident and fled the scene, police said.

LAGRANGE, NY — An Ulster County man was accused of violating an order of protection and threatening the life of another person. State police said Edward J. Steffens, 28, of Milton, was charged Monday with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree criminal contempt and aggravated family offense, felonies, and second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor.

Police said, shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, troopers were sent to a domestic dispute on Overlook Road in the Town of LaGrange.

An investigation found Steffens was visiting the residence of the victim in violation of an order of protection, police said, where he menaced and threatened to kill the victim with a knife.

A person who was also in the residence overheard the incident and came to the aid of the victim, police said, and engaged with Steffens to prevent any further harm.

Steffens received a minor injury during the exchange and fled the scene.

He was found with the assistance of troopers from the Highland barracks in Troop F and was taken into custody, after which he was sent to Vassar Brothers Medical Center for medical treatment.

Steffens was arraigned in the Dutchess County Court and sent to the Dutchess County jail without bail. He is scheduled to appear before the court June 21.
