Upstate Man Arrested On I-87 For Drug Possession: State Police

He was also charged with child endangerment.

NEWBURGH, NY — A traffic stop on I-87 in Newburgh led to the arrest of a Schoharie County man on drug possession charges. State Police said Joseph A. Stanzione, 28, of Sloansville, was stopped on the Thruway for a vehicle and traffic violation.

After an interview with Stanzione, police determined there was probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants.

He was found to be in possession of heroin and codeine, police said.

Stanzione was taken to the Newburgh barracks and charged with three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors.

He was released on appearance tickets to return to the Town of Newburgh Court Jan. 9.
