Man Grabs Cop's Gun Outside Madison Square Garden, Police Say

The man also hit the police officer in the face with a laptop.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A man is facing charges for grabbing at a police officer's gun and then hitting her in the face with a computer during a street chase, an NYPD spokesman said.

Jonathan Chin, 26, approached a female police officer working outside Madison Square Garden on Seventh Avenue and West 32nd Street around 10:45 a.m. Sunday, an NYPD spokesman said. After a brief conversation, Chin attempted to grab the officer's gun.

The police officer fought Chin off and then chased him up Seventh Avenue, police said. During the chase, Chin threw a laptop computer at the officer, hitting her in the face above the eye, an NYPD spokesman said. The officer caught up with Chin as they approached West 33rd Street and place him under arrest.

Chin was taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and has been charged with robbery and assault, an NYPD spokesman said.

The police officer was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition for injuries suffered to her face, police said.
